Instigate – Echoes of a Dying World

Instigate sounds like later Suffocation with more classic heavy metal riffs embedded within, sort of like Adramelech working in the style of Deeds of Flesh, but within this framework, this band make compelling songs that are both familiar and alien at the same time.

Expect deep gritty vocals over pounding drums and riffs with lots of recursive hits to keep the percussive intensity high; the secret game of this sub-genre involves hiding the early speed metal origins of this style behind modern-sounding complex and abrasive death metal. Echoes of a Dying World brings out a hidden darkness.

Songs use multiple pounding riffs but are built around one open-strummed tremolo riff that leads up and around the chaos produced by the conflict of the percussive chromatic riffs. Song structure follows that. In the end, Instigate delivers all the brutality of the technical death metal past with classic heavy metal appeal.
