Revenant – Prophecies of a Dying World Vinyl Reissue

Revenant‘s long out of print Prophecies of a Dying World album is being reissued for the first time since its original release back in 1991.

Unfortunately, Prophecies of a Dying World is being reissued only on vinyl by vinyl only label Cosmic Key Creations. Of course as an album well over 50 minutes made in the nineties, Revenant’s debut was originally intended for the CD format; the LP version dropped two tracks to cut down the run time to forty-five minutes. This reissue is strictly for hipster poseurs: if you were old enough to be of record-buying age in the era when vinyl was a major format and lacked a CD player back then, you would have owned the original LP. Hopefully a proper CD reissue will follow this double LP one so that younger Hessians can own a physical copy without shelling out for a CD rip pressed to vinyl. Nobody of any intelligence who values their money should buy this.

Speed metal with a bit virtuosic ornamentation. Period piece nostalgia trash. Discard whether original or repress.

You win 2,000 points for your ultra contrary opinion. Everyone here appreciates you and everything you do.

      1. Rainer Weikusat says:

I think he’s about right: This (the first two tracks at least) is speed metal at the core, just with random tempo changes, some downtuning and with mismatched drumming. Feels like an odd collection of bits thrown together to create a “worst of both worlds” hybrid.

        1. Seth says:

This site is usually quite good about upholding its qualitative basis, but I think gives a bit too much credence to the influential, even if some of those those works in themselves are not great when taken out that of that context.

    2. Strong Bad says:

^ Bitches about nostalgia on a site that only likes old shit.

      Great jerb, Homestar.

      1. Hessian Murderer of Black Death says:

Does it like old music because it’s nostalgic, or because old music is better?

Post scriptum: Godless Arrogance, 2014, faggot

        1. Strong Bad says:

I don’t know and don’t care what your P.S. is referring to, but I bet you’re gonna tell me, anyway. Aren’t you?

        2. Rainer Weikusat says:

Does it like old music because it’s nostalgic, or because old music is better?

Or because everything seemed better while we were still Much Younger™?
[That’s a rumour I heard of. I can’t imagine why someone would think so.]

It’s also more complex than that. Knowing what was good is easy with 20 years of hindsight (or not so: Someone who rates Tom G Warriors “bet this shit sells” parodies over, say, In the Sign of Evil, suffers from a severe case of yardstick deformation). Predicting what will be considered good in 20 years time, even by oneself, is impossible. Plus, most stuf which is released is crap (both now and then), most good stuff will be forgotten, hence, “playing it safe” by sticking some “Bah!”-label on everything (with little or no reflection) has a low error rate. And few people like to be wrong.

There are enough new releases warranting “Do I like this?” or “Does this say something?” experiments, this just takes some searching and/or luck and there’s no group bonus, rather the opposite.

without John McEntee, this band is a false.

  2. JohnnyReb says:

    Sweet. Thanks for the info.

  3. Parasite says:

Fake news. All 9 tracks are represented.

    1. Spinal says:

I think he’s referring to the org Nuclear Blast pressing

  4. News is news (((Roger))).

  5. Morbideathscream says:

I have a cd-r of this album and have had it for over a decade. I do call for a 2CD reissue of Prophecies with the second disc containing their demos. I’m surprised a label like Necroharmonic hasn’t jumped all over that.

    1. Necrofartharmonics would then not ship you the CDs and you would need to file PayPal chargeback. Hopefully Dark Symphonies get their hands on it.

    2. Nuclear Whore says:

IMHO the EP “Distant Eyes” sounds better than the album in CD format, so I feel your comment.

Guest contributor, calm the fridge down please.

  6. True news. Learn to read dumb fucker. It’s the original CD printed to 2xLP. Everyone who buys this instead of the original CD (they will cost about the same) or finding a rip is retarded.

    1. Marc Defranco says:

The original CD actually costs 20 to 30 or so more. Well at least on discogs.

    2. Parasite says:

Learn to write better reviews and find better news you fuck.

      1. Parasite says:

P.s i still love ya bud.

        1. Gorgowocoa says:

dude what the fuck is going on? is daniel at war with me or what??? why can’t he get his shit together and review proper releases when I ask? what the fuck is happening with his patchy SMR shit? and he’s meant to be working on longer articles too? will someone please get back to me with some answers about what’s going on over there

  7. bustin makes me feel good says:

they weren’t promoting it, they were saying that a long-out of print album is being reissued but the label is cutting tracks and probably using a CD-rip, both of which make it a poor buy and neither of which would be apparent if you just saw the LP in some random distro.

for an autistic you don’t pay much attention.

    1. bustin makes me feel good says:

actually i guess it’s me who doesn’t pay attention. it’s a double LP and all the tracks are there. also the original issue was on both LP and CD so who knows what they label is sourcing it from.

  8. Gorgowocoa says:

MyBloodValentine are repressing their old albums from master-tapes but it seems metal isn’t really suited to the audiophile thing since most of us live chaotic and degenerate lifestylse and probably don’t have the intelligence/patience required for vinyl but we will buy the vinyl anyway CAUSE KVLT AS FUCK SPLATTER VINYL GONNA NAIL THAT SHIT ABOVE THE WALL OF MY FAVOURITE SOFA AND BRUTALISE TRANNIES UNDER IT

  9. Trashchunk says:

I fucking hate vinyl, I enjoy buying old LPs for $4-10 but fuck that format
