Like many hardcore bands, Agnostic Front has found itself shoved behind the “new hardcore” which is basically emo and jumpcore with more drama. The band are reclaiming their place in history and music.

And how to tell apart a thrash from a plain hardcore band ?
Thrash is a hardcore-metal hybrid, so the riffing is more metal. The only ones here that sound like thrash to me are DRI and SOD, but they are the sort of late thrash variety that has more metal mixed in. The classics of thrash are Cryptic Slaughter Convicted, DRI Dealing With It, Corrosion of Conformity An Eye for an Eye, and Suicidal Tendencies Suicidal Tendencies. Metal riffing has more phrase to it, where hardcore riffing is more about rhythmic strobing of chords, and metal likes a transition between minor key to chromatic to whole scale, where hardcore still has a lot more of the pentatonic sound to the riffs. The classics of hardcore are Amebix No Sanctuary, Discharge Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, The Exploited Let’s Start a War, and Cro-Mags Age of Quarrel.

What I’ve assessed so far from trolling metal forums, discord and soulseek channels is that most so called metalheads are typically left-leaning losers who have a hardon for anything progressive within metal (which I hate), and many of them also admit to barely listen to actual metal anymore. They probably have the asian-flush type tolerance for alcohol as well, since they don’t party like the 80’s anymore.
I still like Incantation and Deicide as much as I did 20 years ago, I haven’t changed and never will – and this is becoming a rare phenomenon. So I’m assuming this fetish for proggy-ness must probably have some sort of miscarried racial component to it as well.
Sort of like jazz and blues worship generally, perhaps. I wish metal “prog” was actual “prog,” but as I was telling a homie this weekend, the problem with prog is the philosophical outlook: it is a lamentation and protest, not a statement of setting everything to right like Deicide. These are children from “chaotic homes” (psychologically abused, by divorce and other democracy mental health issues) who are angry at their Dads.

This is a separate but interesting issue. I think people generally do not party hard anymore. Part of it is that people do not want to go outside. Part of it is that between microplastics, uber-processed foods, miscegenation, and sedentary lifestyles, they are kind of frail.
I suspect unchecked gene drift as well. This brings down many populations, both human and otherwise.

Pantera: basically dumbed down Exhorder/Testament into “people’s metal” that draws in smelly hillbilly types and fat soccer moms like flies on shit. If “patriotic” democracy had a heavy metal poster child, this would be it, but it goes even further because after listening carefully to Cowboys from Hell, I felt like I was actually witnessing a fecal bug-chasing orgy on a pigfarm (Phil is a known pig lover, google it). The whole act is like that tough guy fighting scene from the movie Bruno where the straight pride facade was eventually dropped for unbridled raw gay energy. Somehow worse than Jon Bon Jovi.
Death: I like Scream Bloody Gore, but “real” metalheads always go out of the way to proclaim how great the later progressive albums were like this is some heavy metal Beethoven/Frank Zappa shit or something (not that I care aout Zappa, but bear with me). It makes the normies sound intellectual when they say shit like this… and say anything bad about these albums and they’re ready to crucify you for shattering their Koran like a weeb that couldn’t possibly comprehend why anyone would hate anime, but the fact remains that their martyr Chuck couldn’t hold it for too long as he gave into his repressed urges as the inverted cross on his albums became progressively (get it?) more upright, and that cost him his life as we know, but I hope all that sodomic pleasure was worth it. They overshadowed bands like Atheist because normies are only capable of fake, or muted listener friendly complexity at best.
Mastodon & Opeth: Where do I even begin? Take everything I said from above, and magnify this into infinity.
There’s nothing wrong with any of this music except that it’s boring. But I kinda like even later Death. Have to be in a rare mood for it.
And did I mention Power Metal is a great album? Plus an actual hipster metalhead I work with considers Pantera “problematic” (he was surprised to learn that Jon Nödtveidt killed a man for being a worthy human sacrifice, that is: gay and brown – uh oh now this great album Reinkaos is problematic lol), so Phil gets points simply for offending the sensibilities of undercover ravers (I am 1/4 raver, not enough to budge from my political position of dispassionate observation). Pantera might suck but Phil is a real one.
Why do you hate yourself?
That you hate yourself is the only logical conclusion that can be derived from your insistence on listening to garbage like later Death and early Pantera (like Motley Crue and Iced Earth, but not as good).
Jon Nödtveidt made a great Iron Maiden tribute album and then a mediocre Dave Matthews tribute album, after which point he made some kind of “high art” that is beyond me but I have never enjoyed listening to. What does this tell us? Listen to The Somberlain.
Great art often requires great randomness which often requires a parallel mentation to insanity. Like insanity, it is chaotic and therefore has the widest range of options for metaphor, but unlike insanity, it is purposeful beyond the self.
Death on the other hand was always a self-serving product that was buoyed by the other talents in the band. Chuck Schuldiner was the motivating force, but he never liked death metal, nor wanted to be in a death metal band. This anger led to his acquiring AIDS which killed him.
I dunno if “gay and brown” qualifies a worthy human sacrifice. I would rather sacrifice the traitors who enable the progress of equality in destroying all good things in life.
Death up through spiritual healing had a huge influence on my early days of getting into metal, so I respect Death, not so into it nowadays and if I’m gonna listen to Death I’d actually rather listen to Human or Symbolic than anything else. That stuff strikes me as Chucks most heartfelt material. Or maybe because I never saturated my brain with it like I did the early stuff, so it’s just less played out (I know great art doesn’t really get played out). There are plenty of bands who do the earlier style thrashing riff fest stuff way better. I dunno, Death only really comes up in social situations, which has obvious implications and shortcomings that are discussed here ad nauseam. But I don’t care, precisely because I do not hate myself or life. I embrace it, then I move on, and everything in between; whatever is called for, for reasons I ultimately do not (yet?) have the language to articulate (or maybe just the time…)
Power Metal isn’t actually great in the way that Beethoven is, but it’s great like the sourdough I go out of my way to stand in line for twice a week. It reminds me of kicking the shit around NYC, good times. But so does Carnivore. I’ll throw it on in between some WASP and Wendy O Williams.

My reasoning for dumping on Opeth-ism is very simple. After I heard the innovations that propelled death/black metal into what it is today (Morbid Angel, Possessed, Hellhammer, Slayer, Sepultura, Sodom, Bathory etc.), why I would I need to be listening to anything that sounds inferior to these? Why do I need McDonalds in my life when I can eat Wagyu A5 steak? It’s simple logic.
I don’t care what fanboyism is thrown at me, I hear it every day and I will not be converted, and I also don’t care if Phil Anselmo is Jesus fucking Christ, his music and anything like it sucks abysmal balls.
I’d rather be listening to Morpheus Descends over and over like a deranged autist than poison myself with Black Dahlia Murder or a mediocre Death album.
