I don’t know what cirith ungol was like live back in the day, but they’re old now… I suppose their show at frost and fire II was fairly atmospheric though. Not sure if any of the other acts are worth seeing. You did leave a scathing review of Sumerlands and They look like they suck. Maybe Nekromanteion.

    1. Sumerlands suck. All of their songs sound the same and are boring. Nekromantheon I believe is the Obliteration guys’ speed metal band.

I can imagine. I dig their logo and the album art of their latest was kinda cool, but yeah they look like retro worship/ clone 101. I thought Nekromanteion was from Greece and Obliteration from like Finland or something. I don’t really listen to either bands so what do i know… But what’s your opinion on Obliteration and Nekromamteion? They’re both pretty hyped.

        1. Obliteration is okay especially their last album with the Tolkienesque art; Nekromantheon (not Nekromanteion) is mediocre.

I don’t know why I thought it was spelled the other way… Oh well, probably the last I’ll spell their name. and you were right, they share a couple members anyways and both are Norwegian. I’m guessing the Obliteration record isn’t all that worth checking out. I remember listening to them a year back or so. If I recall correctly, they had a rollicking speed/heavy metal emphasis with some black metal atmosphere draped over their predominant death metal sound, no?

Which of those bands are good?
I’ve only heard that Cirith Ungol album.
The vokillz fucked with me — reminded me of a “Too Mega Therion”-era Tom G. Warrior getting wayyyy fucking-amped on meth.

Ashbury is pretty good if you can handle ’70s style hard rock. Sort of Wishbone Ash/Thin Lizzy-ish stuff that’s been around for decades. I’m guessing they’re probably friends with the Cirith Ungol guys.

Night Demon was a sort of okay retro heavy metal band when I saw them open for Carcass. The other ones I have no idea.

      1. S.C. says:

What did you think of that tour with Carcass (and Ghoul?)? It came through my city, but figured they’d only play newer stuff, so it sounded like a big bore and I stayed home.

    2. S.C. says:

I would say Cirith Ungol, but seems like you’ve already made your mind up about them. I myself would not go to see any of the other acts. But decide for yourself…

Why the fuck would you even play in a communist hellhole like Brooklyn? Way to misread who your audience is. It’s even at the People’s Music Hall of Williamsburg.

    1. S.C. says:

Haha communism is popular these days, Brooklyn’s been popular for some decades and old underground metal is really coming under the lime light right now. So whether it is targeted at the demographic that most of us here consider to be true metal heads (or not…), I’m sure many a poser will come out of the woodwork to attend this show providing an acceptable turnout for the bands and organizers. I think they’ve nailed their audience…

      1. Necronomeconomist says:

I don’t know, guys… It’s possible that, in general, your ‘posers’ are just normal people who miraculously like good music. You don’t have to be a true Metalhead to do so!

On the other hand, it IS in Brooklyn. I reckon niggas gotta be rich to live there. I don’t know though.

        1. S.C. says:

A fair point. But why would someone only like Cirith Ungol for some reason and not be obsessed with any and all good metal they can find?

  4. Rob says:

It is worth going just to see Cirith Ungol. Any other good bands on this can be considered a bonus.

  5. Uncle Boyd says:

Sumerlands sounds like “Ultimate Sin” era Ozzy and mid-80’s Whitesnake. The problem is that Sumerlands cannot write a catchy anthemic chorus, Cock Metal fails without that key ingredient.

Nekromantheon are decent. Frigid Bich are awesome.
Too bad these kinds of events are never where I live. Sometimes I see advertised concerts with mostly shit and 1 or 2 good bands and not worth my time. I am antisocial and will not waste hours standing around to see who I like.
Too many craptacular bands on the bill would be added.
Cirith Ungol have always been 100% great since the debut Lp.
I regret selling the vinyls when i was broke.
