Cynic Demo Compilation Coming Out Next Year

A complete compilation of Cynic‘s demos, Uroboric Forms, is coming out next year from Century Media. Keep an eye out for it.

The demos are more like sketches of an early artist. I can hear the thread, at least in my own playing, that’s still in me now. What’s happening in that group, on those demos, is still happening to me now. I can hear the through-line. Like, “Oh, wow! I’m still doing that!” The voice was always there. Now, it’s more refined, articulate, and precise. I could never get back to the demos. It’s a time and space, relative to it. It’s a snapshot of who we were then. It’s a document. That’s the beauty of it.
– Paul Masvidal (August 2016)

A fan remaster of the material has been circulating for some time:

  1. Marc Defranco says:

I will never care about this band, the most I will give is this comment.

  2. Pretty good demos. The album is good once you strip off all the faggy ornaments that get in the way.

The demos are the only material worthwhile from Cynic. The 1990 demo is the band’s peak. Focus was overrated instrumental masturbation with some fruity ornaments indeed.

      1. The fretless bass solos…

  3. Still less gay than Garroted.

    1. Nothing is more gay than war metal, even homosexuals.

      1. Look, I just think that there are less painfully closeted ways of expressing an unrequited bronze age passion, like spreading your butt cheeks in a public bath or exhuming Freddie Mercury’s scrotum and worshiping it with the same vivifying lust that Varg Vikernes exhorts us to have for our grandparents.

        1. Grandparents? His point is simple: KILL THE BOOMERS. And that, I think, is totally valid.

          1. Rainer Weikusat says:

They’re not responsible for decoloniszation. That’s a Wilson-experiment which may yet turn out to be a great idea – if so, more power to him – but probably not during your or my lifetime (I’d love to be wrong about this).
