That’s the point, the dutch are known to embrace crude in-your face imperfectionism. They’re cool and all, but were Venom really as influential as people say they were? Some twitter accounts allege that they’re the second most important metal band behind Black Sabbath and they created “Thrash metal,” Death metal and Black metal and that Bathory, Celtic Frost and Slayer wouldn’t exist without them. Seems far fetched to me but I wasn’t around then
Their importance is overstated in my view. Bands like Motorhead and Angel Witch were more influential among creators, but Venom was easily digestible — basically a simple punk/metal hybrid — and therefore gained a large audience. However, it is easy to see the appeal of raw gnarly rock music with Satanic themes.
