I feel that by embracing the past, we can unlock the full potential of the future. These early demos serve as a testament to the band’s innovative spirit. They play a significant role in shaping the distinctive sound and style that would go on to define death metal, as well as Massacre’s blueprint. They’re essential & they’re part of what I think is history.

Ooh yeth DO tell
Why do you all think metal died in 1994? Is it because that’s when Varg was arrested and couldn’t start a fourth reich?
A few things:
1. Metal had expressed its vital ideas in full.
2. Metal had to step up, musically, to keep going.
3. Clinton years had kicked in, including moral outrage.
Ideological outrage replaced religious outrage.
Step up? There’s every form of tech this and tech that and leet musicianship known to man in metal, hell at this point its more tech than jazz! How the fuck else is it going to step up?
Musically more than technically. The tek-def guys use relatively few techniques in actuality.
Sweeps, tremolo, tapping, palm muting, [pinch] harmonics, fingerpicking all come to mind, I mean can you think of any guitar techniques to add to that? Def or no that’s what you have to work with. Seems like a non-point. But your point about musicality is spot on. Metal needs to delve deeper into theory not to mention the mounting psychic terror of our time to be interesting at this point. I mean old Morbid Angel is still more interesting than some guitar wizard tech stuff with decades of metal history to build on in terms of melody and harmony. And don’t get me fucking started on modern metal drumming.
Once again, Godless Arrogance is the only album since the early days that comes to mind in meeting my criteria for interesting metal. I’m sure there are more but generally the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.
Look up some old live videos of Spencer Seim, the guitar player from Hella. Now there’s a guy who is getting creative on guitar and like in metal he only ever really uses distortion. Give me spencer seim, van cliburn and hannemann all blended together and let that cook a while.
It’s not the techniques. It is the writing of songs which evoke a feeling of unity with some aspect of reality. Everything else turns into self-help emo or impotent basement rage.
Well yeah it’s not metal if it feels sorry for itself – or anything else.
I missed the thrust of your initial comment the first time around. Musically, yes, metal needs to step up, agreed. The rock band setup is always going to tend towards minimalism in any case, for better or worse.
Quoting this just because it is resonantly awesome.
Tech this and Tek that but despite all the money those nerds spent on lessons, their songs aren’t even a fraction as compelling as Hellhammer, who were a bunch of kids that could barely play their instruments at all
Quality comes from something less tangible then how complicated the guitar part is
Backed. Based. Songwriting > production, imagery, cool name, biggus dickus, tek, money, etc.
Brett:
What is your opinion on the new Fleshcrawl ?
Also, do you consider the US lost the war with Iran ?
First listen on new Fleshcrawl: I hope they drop the “modern metal” (alternative rock) influences.
No, the US did not lose the war with Iran… it achieved its strategic objectives. The peace is unlikely to hold.
What strategic objectives? Why wont the peace hold?
Strategic objectives: regime change, destroy missile program, no nukes, etc.
The peace will not hold because Iran will not honor it.
1. Biologically speaking, it may be impossible for third world mutants to attain, let alone, achieve lasting peace.
2. If by some cosmic miracle the third world had peace, it would provide an insight into how delusional they are, which they’re terrified of, so dysfunction and distraction continue to be their drug and salvation.
Broader question: can humans have peace? Should we want peace?
Peace comes through hierarchy. When Israel and Iran depend on each, like Qatar and UAE do, they will maintain an uneasy but mutually beneficial relationship.
But no, third world nations are by definition incompetent, low IQ, corrupt, and criminal. It is very sad. If I could, I would simply execute all the incompetents, criminals, perverts, retards, and insane on Earth, and then the third world would be a nice simple place instead of a horror. There would also be far fewer White people, since most of those have “goyishe kop” and are basically retarded.
Point #2 is excellent and also applies to organized religion, patriotism, libertarianism, and liberalism.
Brett, stop being so careful
Unless you are afraid of getting evicted, arsoned, fired, etc, then why don’t you just be full on white power?
Because I am not. I am an anti-diversity activist who favors mono-ethnic societies for obvious historical reasons, but am skeptical of the pro-White movement because it denies the need for White quality and mono-ethnic (not merely mono-racial) populations.
The only weird thing is the synopsis doesn’t acknowledge that this is a 20-year compilation getting reissued this year.
Bands reissue their demos recordings know I will get drunk as ass and order it, then forget about it when the reissue of the reissue of the reissue of the demos comes out the next year.
Exact-a-mundo
I fully expect it to be 100% gay by being mastered off mp3’s and not a true lossless audio release.
That is what most record companies are doing these days
And then they wonder why people just stream…
