Lethal Prayer – Sarcilege Infernus (2025)

With Sacrilege Infernus, Lethal Prayer offers a faithful yet expansive continuation of Spiritual Decay, and it adheres to the variegated song structures that defined earlier works from the band while allowing broader influences to permeate the release.

Though every musician delivers a performance of considerable virtuosity, the album is, above all, a guitarist’s conquest reminiscent in spirit to Morbid Angel’s Formulas Fatal to the Flesh with certain leads at times resembling Trey Azagthoth’s in complexity and expressive fervor. While death metal remains the album’s primary expression, there is an evolution toward more exploratory forms with echoes of 1970s progressive rock surfacing throughout.

This is not to say that Lethal Prayer are operating in the pseudo-progressive pretension of bands like Blood Incantation. What Lethal Prayer accomplishes is deeply lived-in, the result of musicians who have fully absorbed their influences such that even the more eclectic moments of Sacrilege Infernus emerge with a sense of purpose and makes sense in the overall presentation. This is wild man music with legitimate flashes of creative genius.

Given that Belial once handled guitar and vocals in Incantation, that heritage leaves a clear impression on this release. You can hear the influence in the frenzied pinch harmonics scattered throughout, and some riffs would not feel out of place on Diabolical Conquest. That said, this is far from a conventional album.

Songs don’t flow into each other so much as explode in different directions, and there’s even a cover of Rush’s Bastille Day positioned in the middle of the tracklist. Moreover, several of the departures from traditional death metal are quite formidable, particularly exemplified in the track “Valar Morghulis,” whose tangents are expounded upon at a very high level.

It is no exaggeration to assert that this is the most compelling metal album I have heard in recent years; it is very Dionysian. For those interested in obtaining a CD of Sacrilege Infernus, contact Belial via https://lethalprayer.com/contact.

I can’t stop thinking rap music is terrible
    discussion
Intellectually, I know you can’t fault a genre. It’s all what you do with it, that’s clear, and it’s been clear for me since I was a teen.

But holy fuck does rap music continue to sound eternally stupid to me. It always has. It sounded like people posing and thinking they were cool when they actually looked like idiots, talking about lifestyles that were in no way laudable, and not even having a lot interesting to say about them.

And the sampling – I remember when young thinking “Alright, not a fan of rap, but that’s actually a pretty catchy backing track and chorus he came up with there.” Only to find out it was just a sample from another song. What? Then…he. Didn’t. Do. Anything.

Part of the problem was clearly that rap had this wink to it’s audience of “you know what I’m talking about.” And no, I didn’t know what they were talking about. Like I said, it just seemed like idiots posturing and thinking they were cool and important. Almost like the leader of a Junior High clique who sees only his little myopic world of Junior High and thinks he’s awesome because an equally moronic girl in his special-ed math class was into him. It just universally seemed like music written by people adhering to shitty cultural values and operating with an IQ 60 points below mine that disallowed them to see outside of that.

A recent perplexing moment is when I was reading a reddit post about what shitty humans the couple from the group Die Antwoord are in real life, and followed a link to this video made by a rapper who wrote a revenge song against them for raping her. I definitely thought that sounded interesting, and immediately had an idea in my head of all the places you could go with that. But then I watched the video, and despite whatever happened to this girl, I couldn’t help but feel all these people deserved each other. Just read their texts…who talks like that? Who thinks like that? Even her verses express such a limited viewpoint. Again, I get this sense of people posturing and thinking they’re part of something cool when the whole culture seems clearly crap and moronic and useless to me. This is the shit that makes me think Thomas Sowell was right when he theorized that black/urban/white trash culture keeps itself down by having absorbed shitty cultural values.

Eminem…obviously had some talent for the written world. This is clear. And there are a couple of other times I’ve thought “OK, kinda interesting and creative.” But by and large, the contradiction in my brain endures: You can’t fault a genre, but this genre has been getting so much popularity, so many artists, and so much development…and still it’s shit. So clearly shit. I feel bad, because I frequently encounter rap musicians who seem fair and are open to other genres, and that makes me not want to be a dick about it, but wow do I not get it.

GOT IT DUMBASS RAP IS THE NEMESIS PRIME THE ENEMY DUMB FUCK…

STOP SYMPATHIZING WITH RAP ASSHOLE OR NAGGERS EVEN WIGGERS OR BAGGY FUCKING JEANS FUCKHEAD…

WHAT real ass king rock FUCKERS types are you METALHEAD HUMANS ARE YOU?

    SECRET RAP ROCK NAGGERS HUH?

Are you fucking Korn and ICP in the pussy bitch?

    GROW A PAIR..

    1. Rap is like deathcore: rhythm music that breaks down the internal connections music needs. Maybe it can be done well. It is not my thing.

But, Reddit is like the cum-soaked anus of a defiled Arabic god, and no one should ever go there. Haha
