Undead – Putrefactio (2023)

Death Metal Underground covered Undead Blood Enemy in the past, interviewing the band on their inspirations at that time, chronicling a band that makes a Master-style version of Swedish old school death metal (OSDM).

If you can imagine a crossover between the first Carnage album, first Unanimated, and second Entombed release, you have the basic idea: bounding angular riffs over d-beat drums, grotesque electric blur distortion, and melodic riffs mixed with grinding but energetic budget riffs.

Undead aim less for the epic horror movie ambience through context-shifting via the contrast of phrases and more for a circular format in which riffs stand out, the song comes to a thematic conclusion, and each song is distinct from all others by the riff shapes it uses, placing them far ahead of the herd.

This produces a listening experience more like a Master album, where each song stands on its own and has an individual expression, but the whole is less of a concept album, and songs develop less toward epic conclusions but instead explore a pounding rhythmic intensity that creates a lasting atmosphere.

this video doesnt make me want to listen to this, but it does make me want to listen to EXORCIST

    1. Unfortunately, they have not posted the album stream.

  2. This album cover is excellent. It’s a shame that’s crappy nu metal has crowded the pop culture with it’s pathetic sensibilities and laid the underground metal scene into utter ruin. You guys are doing a to d job in the underground. What we need to do in the underground is all band together and affirmatively trash nu metal daily. Nietzsche says we must crush the current altar so that we may install our own.

    1. John says:

nu metal died in the mid-2000s

      1. They finally became dads and had to hate themselves.

    2. LostInTheANUS says:

I’m crushing men’s prostates every day.

So, anyway. Should we attempt immortality?

    1. For some, I see no reason why not. A good person, a good civilization, a good artform — these should exist for eternity as long as they remain in continuity with their purpose. But most people? No, they do not need immortality, but rather the inverse… they need to be dying sooner.

      1. Throatwobbler Mangrove says:

Speaking of dying sooner: Euthanasia really should be made available for anyone at any time, ages zero and up, with the minimum reason being that they don’t enjoy life. We have all these millions that lead incurably miserable lives, yet we’re still told that we should help (force) them to live. Ending one’s life must be the loneliest of horrors – why not allow the poor bastards to end their suffering easily and make room for those of us who actually appreciate being around? I hope we’re getting there.

        1. I cannot disagree here, with the caveat that we should make civilization less miserable as an experience first. Otherwise this will just lead to suicide from the top down.

  4. Stephen Cefala says:

Nu Metal is HUGE. Death metal is irrelevant. We are sucking nu metals dick instead of destroying their genre.

underground doesnt really need genres anymore theyre just incidental

  5. Stephen Cefala says:

Please tell me exactly how death metal is crushing nu metal in the united states of assholes.

    1. It is not, numetal just burned out after all the fans grew older and realized it was ridiculous. Its soft jazz on guitars with a funk beat.

  6. Pig Dick Sandwich Pork Ur Butt Pie says:

Would it have killed this band to just post a single track with a static image of the album cover instead of a fucking embarrassing video? If it was good I’ll never know, bands with poor senses of aesthetics need to fuck off. Also from what little music I heard it sounds like every run of the mill “pro recorded” semi sort of big underground label. There’s better shit out there but I know you are a compulsive contrarian.

    1. I was listening to the first Winterwolf and thought of this band. What other better bands do you suggest?

      1. shiiieeetttt says:

I take it back everything out now sucks, new Desecresy I think maybe out

        1. Sanna Marin was cute but bad for Finnish metal.
