When you think of the impetus behind Sammath and Kaeck, think of cooking: a careful adjustment of the ratio and granularity of ingredients in order to achieve the perfect effect. Trying to meld aggressive death metal and sinister black metal requires precise intent, like martial arts or assembling nukes.

Ignoring the vandalistic “art,” the stupid name, and the goofy promises written on the can, the Art Car IPA provides a fruity yet ascetic high-powered India Pale Ale that does not degrade with warmth like most fruity beers. It has its own self-possessed flavor.

Conforming to the new norm in American beers of higher ABV, this beer tastes like a malty American adjunct beer with too much sweetness and an aftertaste of that yeasty, boiled squash flavor that comes from fermenting grains, but on the whole, beats most of the alternatives.

WW2 is finally over and we realized the easy answer of world democracy, social benefits, patriotic obedience, Christianity, and civil rights was merely another form of Control. If you want Order, have a goal and reward the good; if you want Control, get a means-over-ends system that punishes individuality.

Many of you like me had that old Turbo Records release from the early 1990s when death metal was as scarce as honest used car salesmen. Somewhere between death metal, early black metal, speed metal hybrids like Necronomicon, and doom metal, this album graced many a tape deck, turntable, or CD player.
