Void Rot – Descending Pillars (2020)

Entering the already crowded field of doom metal, Void Rot take a minimalist version of the glacial Skepticism or Thergothon approach and add a little more death metal and some of the post-rock open chord picking that gives atmosphere, creating a grating monolith of slowly moving sound which varies motifs as a form of texture.

Mentors / Elbow Deep – Trash Party (2018)

Hanging out on the edge of the thrash genre with MOD and SOD, the Mentors represented the side of thrash that took thematically after punk; most thrash either placed metal riffs in punk songs (Cryptic Slaughter, Suicidal Tendencies, Fearless Iranians From Hell) or punk riffs in metal songs (DRI, Dead Horse) and took after one of the two thematically, but the Mentors kept the party and sleaze side of punk alive.

Castigu – Castigà (2020)

History will not remember war metal well, since it took aspects of black metal and intensified them but in doing so, missed the point of the atmosphere and sense of a world changing in parallax, where it drifts backward as time thrusts us forward, that black metal captured.

Ultimate Analysis : Bathory – Twilight of the Gods Part III

Part III: Man and his place in the Cosmos

Perhaps the most anthropocentric song by Bathory. And this is a good thing, since this is not the humanism of egalitarianism and mediocrity, it is rather a vision of mankind’s destiny and potential that should find a good use to our technology and knowledge. This destiny shall propel us towards the stars!
