So much of life involves filtering out what people tell you, which is what it is convenient for them to have you think, and getting to the core of an issue: despite being sold as a Necrophobic-style band, Nkeromanthieon instead thinly disguise Testament and Obliveon style speed metal within a death metal aesthetic.

Hammerheart Records Re-Issues Wehrmacht in March

Mekong Delta – Intersections (2012)

Canadian technical speed metal band Voivod announced the November 27 release of a live album, Lost Machine – Live, recorded on their last tour for their most recent studio album, The Wake. The tracks on this album were recorded in Québec City during 2019.

Satan – Early Rituals (2020)
NWOBHM took the proto-metal of Black Sabbath and mixed it with the hard rock of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, infused it with the spirit of punk and some of the progressive rock of the era, and came up with the last bridge between metal and rock before speed metal punted it out of the park. Early Rituals uncovers this era with zest.

Obsecration – Onwards the Mystic Paths of the Dead (2020)
Greek act Obsecration combine speed metal, death metal, and a black metal sensibility for an album that is best enjoyed in the sense of early speed metal, before Metallica showed them how to make continuous compositions with Ride the Lightning. These songs entwine strength and weakness in dominance of the riff.

Forensear – “Single” (2019)
Forensear come to us from the Argentinian scene, part of that wide South American envelope where the distinctions between subgenres blur, and sounds roughly like an early Testament playing death metal at moderate speed metal pacing, resulting in a trudging but energetic delivery.

Megadeth Rust In Peace

This is one of the classics worthy of its praise, and should unite both casual listeners and underground connoisseurs in this opinion. It might feel rather fruitless to review a classic of this scale at this point, but after re-listening to it multiple times lately and learning to play some of the tracks I felt compelled. Most of everything that can be said about this album was probably already said but I figured I’d give some further analysis of the songwriting and tracks.
