One band I was really super impressed with live was Decomposition. I got to open for them at On The Y club in Sacramento about five years ago with a death metal band I was in called Condemned to Live. That’s a key underground place to play up there.3 Comments
Cirith Ungol’s final and worst album, Paradise Lost is finally being reissued for the first time since its release in 1991. Metal Blade Records was unable to secure the rights to the album back when they released the first CD versions of the rest of the Cirith Ungol catalog in 1999. The CD, LP, and merchandise may be preordered from Metal Blade’s website and the band posted a press release their Facebook page:No Comments

This text is a continuation of the previously published article, The Difficulties of Folk Metal. As stated in Part I, the threefold aim of this multi-part article is, in rough terms, to: 1. Give a short introduction to the subject, 2. Point out some of the difficulties connected with integrating folk music into metal and finally, 3. Provide alternative methods of integration. Part II will be dedicated to the second part of this quest.
Naturally, there are limits regarding the scope of my endeavor – the most obvious demarcation being that the article primarily focuses on Swedish folk music. In my view, the critique of folk metal is an ongoing project, and this article should not be seen as an exhaustive treatment of the subject at hand.
So, if someone else out there finds the subject interesting, you are more than welcome to make contributions. It could be in the form of additional material (metal or folk related) and complementary ideas to enhance the project. For example, the depth and applicability of the arguments presented below would surely benefit if the scope could be expanded to include other forms of traditional music.42 Comments
The Room provides a relaxing, tranquil listen. The opening trope is slightly clichéd in mood and form but it works well in context and creates a relaxed hallucinatory vibe. A lush analogue chorusing effect with solid low-end sound makes the introduction a seismic force in addition to a musical one.14 Comments

Ossarium is a simply a bucket of fun. Lots of simple Grave-style 90s death metal riffs with some occasional wacky but catchy keyboards. Abundant driving mid-tempo grooves and a nice, heavy snare drum keep intensity throughout. I dig how the drummer doesn’t overdo it but keeps things nice and steady. (more…)9 Comments
The bourbon market has seen an incredible expansion over the past 10 years. Major distillers have added new brands to their portfolio and the proliferation of craft/artisan distillers has exploded. And with demand at an all time high, prices have become exorbitant, making many good types of bourbon out of reach for the average consumer.15 Comments
Texas death metal band Severance have finished recorded and mixing their upcoming album The Concession Continuum and are currently looking for a label to release it according to their website:
Well, as promised, here is the album update…The new material is all finished, mixed, and ready to shop around. We are currently shopping the material to various labels in hopes of finding one to work with us. The plan is to release The Concession Continuum as a DVD/CD combo. Hopefully, this will come to fruition. The artwork (which will be revealed soon) is also complete. We are really pleased with the final outcome; Charlie Vela at Sound of Rain Studios displayed why he is so sought-after in South Texas for his studio skills. The track listing is as follows:
1-Conceding to Consequence
4-The Idle Idol
7-Stripped of Innocence
8-En Tiempos Muertos
Total Time: 40:06
We will keep this site updated with any further developments. Thanks for your interest. JP
